U.S. politics-related anxiety coping mechanism: donating to organizations who know what they're doing, resistance-wise.
The Giving Tuesday window is open right now, and - bonus - many organizations have matches to double or triple your donation!
Here's a short, starter list of organizations committed to protecting our rights and environment and keeping people safe.
Reproductive Freedom for All (formerly NARAL Pro-Choice America) - 3x match through Tuesday!
Planned Parenthood - 1:1 match through Tuesday!
Update: 1:1 match through December 31 or once the $500k total funding goal has been reached!
American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) - 1:1 match through Tuesday!
Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC): 1:1 match through Tuesday!
The Trevor Project - 1:1 match through Thursday or once the $20k total funding goal has been reached!
Earthjustice - 3:1 match through Tuesday or once the $25k total funding goal has been reached!
Update: 1:1 match through December 31 or once the $25k total funding goal has been reached!
The Nature Conservancy - 1:1 match through Tuesday!
Everytown for Gun Safety - no match as of publishing
Update: 1:1 match through December 13 or once the $250k total funding goal has been reached!
Human Rights Campaign - no match as of publishing
And I recommend you DON'T donate to the Salvation Army, because "Supporting the Salvation Army this season, whether by tossing your change in their red kettles or donating your used goods to their resale shops, means assisting an aggressively anti-gay church in furthering its goals of discrimination." (Zinnia Jones as quoted in Forbes' "The Salvation Army Wants You To Believe They’ve Changed")
Please research organizations you're interested in donating to. My listing these organizations here does not validate their business practices or ensure their mission, values, and type (charitable versus political lobbying) align with your preferences.
I'll keep adding to this list as I learn more. Please comment with your recommendations!
